Sigiriya

08th Wonder in the world

Located about 173 km away from Colombo, this ancient artefact lies on top of a sandstone with a height of 200m.

This glorious monument which is also referred to as the 8th wonder of the world by the locals was built by King Kassapa.

The architectural technology of Sigiriya, which was used to build the water gardens, the chain of galleries and staircases evolving from the mouth of an enormous lion is mind-blowing not only to historians but also to modern engineers.

This amazing wonder is listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one the best places for you to give your mind a cracking sensation of a magnificent architecture which dwells among this little country centuries ago.

Polonnaruwa

02nd ancient capital of Sri Lanka

Polonnaruwa, one of the best conserved historic cities in the world is located 227 km away from Colombo. 

This splendid medieval capital established in the 11th century was also declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The relics and temples of Polonnaruwa are within a much more compact area and provides you with an excellent opportunity to explore the legacy of the city in a relaxing bicycle ride while enjoying the rural ambience and lifestyle of the local folks.

One of the most conspicuous features in Polonnaruwa is the vast Parakrama Samudra, a manmade lake which covers an area of more than 15 Km. The ruins of royal palace and council chambers, the Thuparama and Vatadage, Gal Potha (Stone Book) are only a few out of many artefacts well preserved thoroughly out the years which exhibits the former glory of the ancient capital.
